LONDON: Today, the MoD Primary Spokesperson Laura Shipp addressed the public in a first press conference open to the national and international press on the situation in the Baltic Sea. A number of concerns had been emerged after presumably Russian naval and aerial activity in the region around the Danish island of Bornholm. The spokesperson stressed that the UK will observe further developments in the region and that no actual intervention is planned at the moment.
There has been discussions on a potential activation of Article V on collective defense. This article would, however, only be activated if there has been an actual aggression on one of the NATO member states. The spokesperson was very clear that it has not yet been confirmed that the reported overflights and sighted naval activity were Russian military.
